The traditional Czech market, called Trh or Trhy, is a place where you can find many interesting things. Czechs like these markets and they go there especially to buy fruit, vegetables, dairy and other nutritional products. So if you’d like to know more about traditions and traditional tastes, Trh is the place you must visit during your stay in the Czech Republic. |

Normally, when you are interested in buying something, first greet the seller. Then you ask the questions from the previous lessons. |
Kolik to stojí? and Jaká je cena? After finding out the price let’s say you want to buy a kilogram of traditional Czech cheese. You will have to say: |
Kilo sýru, prosím. |
“A kilogram of cheese, please.” |
Let’s break it down: |
(slow) Ki-lo sý-ru, pro-sím. |
Once more: |
Kilo sýru, prosím. |
The first word, kilo, mean “kilogram” or “one kilogram”. |
Next we have sýru, it is the form of the word sýr which means “cheese” in English. |

Last we have prosím which you should remember as being the Czech equivalent for “please”. |
The whole sentence together is: |

Let’s say that you would like to buy two kilograms of apples. In this case say: |

“Two kilograms of apples, please.” |

You already know the meaning of the word dvě. |
The word kila is the plural form of the word kilo and it means “kilograms”. |
