| Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases! |
| Listen to the dialogue. |
| Haló, chtěl bych mluvit s vedoucím. |
| Samozřejmě, okamžik prosím. |
| Once more with the English translation. |
| Haló, chtěl bych mluvit s vedoucím. |
| “Hello, I'd like to speak with the person in charge.” |
| Samozřejmě, okamžik prosím. |
| “Okay, just a moment.” |
| First of all, you'll need to learn how to say "hello" on the phone. |
| That's: |
| haló, haló |
| Then you need to learn how to say "I'd like to speak with [person]." |
| The pattern is: |
| Chtěl bych mluvit s [person]. |
| This Czech sentence literally translates as “I would want to speak with [person].” |
| But it means “I'd like to speak with [person]." |
| For example, |
| "Hello, I'd like to speak with the person in charge." |
| Haló, chtěl bych mluvit s vedoucím., Haló, chtěl bych mluvit s vedoucím. |
| Now, how do you answer this question? |
| Samozřejmě, okamžik prosím. |
| “Okay, just a moment.” |
| Listen to it again. |

| This Czech sentence translates as "Of course, moment please." |
| But it means "Okay, just a moment." |
